Sydney Opera House, Multiple Projects

Renewal of a world icon for future generations

Members of the Saber team have worked extensively at the Sydney Opera House for many years. Saber’s Managing Director Brad Maiden was Manager, Technology Projects at SOH and was responsible for developing the strategy, design and delivering many of the technology systems at SOH.

Brad worked closely with the executive team to develop the strategy, business case and realignment of the Technology Departments team structure to support the capital projects scheduled; enabling their readiness for a digitallenabled future where technology systems and traditional AV and IT areas of responsbility converge.

This led to a plethora of innovative projects including the award-winning Stage Management System (2012 Sydney Design Awards: Product Design – Business and Technology), Concert Hall Crown and High-Level House Lights Upgrade (Heritage Buildings category for Excellence in Sustainability at the NSW Government’s Green Globe Awards), IPTV, Digital Signage and Content Distribution, Recording & Broadcast Studios and venue sound systems. Brad was also one of the pioneers of the Opera House’s successful Connected Classrooms program which enabled high definition, two-way video interaction between the Opera House to primary schools around Australia and Asia.

Recently, the Saber team have been working with Munich-based acousticians Muller BBM on the renewal of the Acoustics and Sound Systems of the Joan Sutherland Theatre and Concert Hall. Bosco Tan – Executive Director of Operations – designed and delivered the video, comms and data systems. This included day-to-day management of contractor compliance and methodical testing and commissioning to ensure venue readiness. The Joan Sutherland Theatre reopened December 31st 2018 to rave reviews for the sound and acoustics.
